Mt. Gongen (Hami)ごんげんやま

Ittan-Momen is a cloth-like being recorded as fluttering through the night in the Ōsumi Takayama region and attacking people. A 1942 dialect collection describes “Ittan-Monmen” as something like a length of cotton cloth about one tan long. Later local accounts tell of it winding around heads and necks, while Shigeru Mizuki’s design gave it a form known across Japan.
