bah-KOH-tsu
An interpretation based on figures found in the Tosa Obake-zōshi. Clad in tattered old cloth over bone-white clay hues, it is said to appear along night roads and near old graveyards. Rather than chasing people, it shows itself to rebuke neglect of memorial offerings for animals. It rides on sounds and wind, and the closer one draws, the more chill and dry odor is felt. No distinct individual traits are recorded, appearances are sporadic and not tied to any season.

harmonizes with those who honor memorial rites and funerals, respectful mourners, caretakers of graves
