Wanyūdōwah-nyoo-DOH
A black wheel wrapped in flame floats between banks of golden haze. An enraged monk’s face fills its hub, glaring outward as it rolls through the silent sky of the scroll. Wanyūdō is a fiery wheel said to steal the souls of those who see it. A notice reading “This is Shōbo’s village” could keep it from the door—but no house or charm has appeared in this scene yet.

Between bands of golden suyari mist, a horse skeleton in old robes crosses the scroll in silence. Red cords and torn cloth are the only traces of human life left upon the pale bones. The Bakotsu of the Tosa Obake Zōshi is a horse killed by fire and returned as bone. Among the Night Parade hurrying onward, it alone seems to carry the time of a life left behind.
